(Web Desk) - In a perfect example of how messy things are going to get as AI-powered image generation and manipulation tools get more popular, someone has discovered that it's easy to use Samsung's AI tools to hide the watermark that's supposed to show that you're using Samsung's AI tools.

During Wednesdays' Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung revealed not only its new flagship smartphone lineup, but a host of new AI-enabled features that will be available on the new devices.

These include tools such as "Generative Edit," which can slow down videos by generating extra frames and even remove reflections on photos taken through windows.

To clearly label images that have been enhanced or edited using AI, Samsung adds a subtle watermark to the corner of the pic, but it turns out it's just as easy to remove that watermark using the exact same approach.

In a video shared by X (formerly, Twitter) user Razar_the_Raven, who appears to be testing the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at a shopping mall kiosk, the small watermark the smartphone adds to AI-manipulated images can be easily erased with just a couple of screen taps and scribbles using Samsung's older 'Object Eraser' tool, which also uses AI but allows the altered image to be saved without the addition of another watermark.

There have been a few initiatives to come up with ways to differentiate AI-generated images from those that have been authentically captured with a camera, including Adobe's Content Credentials.

Samsung may need to go back to the drawing board with its approach.
