CHENNAI (Dunya News) – The Pakistan hockey team achieved their inaugural victory in the Asian Champions Trophy on Monday, as they defeated China 2-1 in their fourth match of the ongoing tournament in Chennai.

Facing a must-win situation, the Pakistani players showcased remarkable potential by effectively countering an early offensive by China in the opening quarter, which concluded without any goals being scored.

In the 20th minute, Sufiyan Khan of Pakistan capitalised on a penalty corner opportunity, securing the first goal of the match.

China managed to reassert themselves in the game when Jiesheng Gao found the net at the commencement of the third quarter. This goal came in the 33rd minute, leveling the score.

Six minutes later, Afraz netted another goal for Pakistan, establishing a score of 2-1.

Subsequently, no further goals were scored, and Pakistan clinched their first victory in the tournament.

Next, Pakistan is scheduled to face their arch-rivals India in their final match on August 9. A victory in this match would secure their spot in the semi-finals.
