French Open: Clijsters, Sharapova advance to second round

Maria Sharapova of Russia and Kim Clijsters of Belgium stormed into second round of French Open.

In the first round of women’s singles of the second Grand Slam event of the season, Kim Clijsters chalked out an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over her opponent Anastasiya Yakimova from Belarus.In another first round match, former world number one, Maria Sharapova registered a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Mirjana Lucic of Croatia.Sharapova is in Clijsters’ half of the draw at the Roland Garros and the two could meet in the quarterfinals.
