Meet Ibrahim: The Karate Kid from Peshawar

(Dunya News) – For Ibrahim, a karate champion, working alongside his father at Peshawar’s famous chappal market in Jahangirpura has never stopped him from pursuing his dreams.
Having been associated with karate for the past ten years, ever day Ibrahim makes his way to the Karate Hall in Qayyum Stadium where he trains for two hours.

Ibrahim has won several national championships and has bagged silver medals twice in the South Asian Games. In 2015, Ibrahim won a silver medal in India during the South Asian Games following which he bagged another silver during the 2017 SAG in Sri Lanka. He has also earned the title of national champion five times in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

But despite the laurels, Ibrahim has received no support or attention from the government. Ibrahim says so far he has supported himself financially. If provided with some assistance, he says he would be able to ensure greater focus on his performance and bag gold medals at international events.

In a province which is being run by a party led by former cricketer, a sportsman, Imran Khan, the lack of support by the government has left Ibrahim disappointed. Yet, the young Karate champion still hopes the government would offer him the much needed support.
