"Ghislain Printant is no longer in charge of the professional team," Bastia announced

BASTIA (AFP) - Ghislain Printant was on Thursday sacked as coach of Bastia, with the Ligue 1 side moving quickly to appoint his assistant Franois Ciccolini as his replacement on an interim basis.

Printant leaves with the Corsican outfit hovering three points above the relegation zone following last weekend s 1-0 loss to Guingamp, their 11th defeat of the campaign.

"Ghislain Printant is no longer in charge of the professional team," Bastia announced.

"The post has been given to Franois Ciccolini until the end of the season," the statement added.

Bastia president Pierre-Marie Geronimi will give the reasons behind the decision later, the club said.

Printant was appointed in November 2014 as successor to Claude Makelele, who was also sacked after defeat to Guingamp.

Bastia were one off the foot of the table when he joined, and he managed to guide them to safety, as well as into the final of the League Cup where they lost to Paris Saint-Germain.
