RAWALPINDI/TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, held a series of high-level meetings with Iran’s top leadership in Tehran as Pakistan continued its diplomatic push aimed at easing tensions in the region and advancing ongoing peace efforts.

According to state media and military sources, Field Marshal Munir met separately with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during his visit to the Iranian capital.

The meetings came at a sensitive moment for the region, with Pakistan pursuing diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue amid continuing geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.

During a special meeting with President Pezeshkian, discussions focused on efforts to lower regional tensions and support diplomatic channels aimed at restoring stability. Iranian Speaker Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Araghchi were also present during the engagement, according to reports.

Field Marshal Munir also held separate talks with Ghalibaf, who has been involved in diplomatic and negotiation efforts in Iran. Discussions reportedly touched on the ongoing dialogue and wider diplomatic developments involving Iran and the United States, with particular attention on regional security dynamics.

Earlier in the visit, the top military commander met Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi, where both sides exchanged views on reducing tensions across the region, promoting peace and stability, and supporting diplomatic initiatives concerning the security landscape in West Asia.

The meetings are taking place against the backdrop of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic outreach and mediation efforts. Pakistan has increasingly positioned itself as a facilitator of dialogue during periods of heightened regional strain, with officials emphasising diplomatic engagement over escalation.

Field Marshal Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday as part of Pakistan’s continuing diplomatic mission, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni welcomed him upon his arrival.

Separately, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had already been in Iran, where he held meetings with several senior Iranian figures. Discussions reportedly centred on measures aimed at reducing ongoing tensions and exploring diplomatic pathways.

Iranian media reports suggested that Field Marshal Munir’s visit forms part of Pakistan’s wider mediation initiative and efforts to support diplomatic progress surrounding discussions linked to Iran and the United States.
