IHC judges' letter: Six-member SC bench resumes suo moto case hearing

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa heads the six-member bench
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - A six-member bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday resumed hearing of the suo moto case of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges’ letter regarding alleged meddling by intelligence agencies in their judicial work on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarrat Hilali, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, will hear the case.
Pakistan Bar Council’s six members, the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Aitzaz Ahsan, Mian Dawood, and Sardar Shahbaz Ali Khosa filed the petitions urging the apex court to take up the case.
They demanded a judicial inquiry into this case of serious nature by the judges of Supreme Court.
The apex court clubbed the petitions which it is set to take up today.
IHC's Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Saman Raffat Imtiaz on March 25 last wrote a letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), alleging “interference” and “intimidation” by “operatives of intelligence agencies.”
In the letter they sought guidance on the interference of intelligence agencies in judicial functions. The Supreme Court, therefore, initiated suo moto proceedings. In its April 3 order, the court stated that a suo moto notice had been taken owing to seriousness of the matter
