LAHORE (Dunya News) – The nation is celebrating Eidul Fitr that falls after the culmination of the holy month of Ramazan along with the Muslims world over on Wednesday seeking Allah's special blessings for the opperssed Palsetinians, Kashmiris and other regions.

Big gathering for offering Eid prayers were held in Eidgahs, mosques, grounds and other open places throughout the city and all over the country with prayers for prosperity, progress and peace in the country and world over. People offered Eid greeting by bracing their near and dear ones after prayers.

After saying Eid prayer, people visited graveyards. They placed flowers on the graves of their loved ones and prayed for their forgiveness.

A large number of beggars thronged Eidgahs and graveyards seeking alms from the worshippers and visitors.The city life remianed dull in the morning with Metro bus and Orange Line train services suspended till 9 am.

PRIME MINISTER

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Eid prayers in Model Town, Lahore. He prayed for the development and prosperity of the country and the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Later talking to media, he urged the affluent people to help those who do not have resources. He called on the nation to work diligently to make Pakistan a prosperous and developed country.

He also urged the nation to remember the Palestinian and Kashmiri brothers on the occasion of Eid.

MOON SIGHTING 

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad on Tuesday announced that the Shawwal moon has been sighted and Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday. 

Maulana Azad made the announcement at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad after the committe meeting.

Addressing a press conference he said testimonies of moon sightings were received from across the country and hence Eid would be celebrated on Wednesday (today).

He said the moon was sighted in Karachi, Dir, Faisalabad, Skardu and other areas. He congratulated the nation on the occasion and said a “message of unity” was being sent to the Islamic world due to Eid falling on the same day.

Esteemed members from various institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), attended the meeting.

Zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar also contributed to the deliberations.

It may be recalled that this year, Eid will be celebrated all over the world jointly as Shawwal moon was not sighted in the Middle East on Monday. The countries in the West and elsewhere which follow Saudi Arabia are also celebrating Eid on Wednesday.

PM, PRESIDENT MESSAGEs

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his heartfelt greetings to his countrymen and the entire Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr and asked everyone to help the least fortunate among them.

In a message, he said, “On the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr, I extend my heartfelt greetings to my countrymen and the entire Muslim Ummah.

President Asif Ali Zardari felicitated the nation and the Muslim Ummah on the auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr and urged them to show compassion and generosity and share their happiness with the poor and needy.

In a message, he said, “On this auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr I felicitate and express my sincere wishes to the Pakistani nation and Muslim Ummah.”

Military leadership on Tuesday extended heartfelt Eid wishes to all citizens of Pakistan, said military’s media wing in a statement.

Armed Forces of Pakistan, alongside Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, felicitated the nation.
