PPP’s CEC continues discussions on matters of national significance into Friday

LAHORE (Dunya News) – President Dr Arif Alvi lacks the authority to determine the date for the upcoming general elections, prominent PPP leader Shazia Marri asserted on Thursday, emphasising that the president's letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was intended to sow confusion and uncertainty in the country.

Following a meeting of the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC), Shazia Marri announced that the CEC would extend its discussions into the following day (Friday) to address various critical issues, including the president's letter to the ECP, the impending elections and matters of national significance.

Marri stated that a comprehensive press conference summarising the CEC's decisions was scheduled for Friday, as members were actively sharing their perspectives during the ongoing session.

During her interaction with the media, Marri refrained from engaging in debates regarding government responsibilities related to sugar and security matters. Instead, she emphasised the importance of conducting the general elections fairly and harmoniously.

Marri acknowledged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had consistently made allegations, but mentioned that the party leadership would determine an appropriate response.

Marri, accompanied by former Minister of State Faisal Karim Kundi, informed the media that senior party leader Taj Haider had written a letter to the ECP, underscoring the necessity for proper procedures in transfers and postings and emphasising adherence to the constitution and the law.

Marri affirmed that the PPP held a strong presence in all provinces, but stressed the need for a level playing field before delving further into the party's manifesto.

Speaking to the media, Faisal Karim Kundi conveyed that senior party leader Latif Khosa had received a notice, adding that both Latif Khosa and Aitzaz Ahsan were invited to Thursday's meeting, but were unable to participate due to prior engagements in the federal capital.

Kundi also voiced concerns regarding the suspension of funding for flood victims and development projects in Sindh. He cited a ban on development activities specific to Sindh, distinct from other provinces.

In the same context, Kundi highlighted issues pertaining to transfers, postings, and appointments in Sindh, noting that PPP associates had reservations regarding these matters.
