(Web Desk) – The Pakistan Peoples Party leader and the federal minister for Water Resources Syed Khursheed Shah says his party will take a stand if the general elections are delayed.

Talking to a local news channel, he said government declared that assemblies would be dissolved on August 9 and accordingly elections should be held within 90 days.

On the contrary, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a recent interview said that elections would be held according to the latest census.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already uttered its incapability to conduct polls on the basis of new population count terming it will have to conduct a fresh delimitation of constituencies.

In reply to a question, Shah hoped that elections would take place on time according to the Constitution.

The minister said the Constitution clearly mentioned that delimitation had to take place, a process which took four months. “So I don’t see elections happening on November 12 or 13,” he claimed.

He vowed that the PPP would “take a stand” if there was a delay in polls.

When asked about the progress in the appointment of the caretaker premier, Shah said that it was important to follow the Constitution.
