LHC for making rules to issue divorce certificates to Non-Muslims
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the provincial local government to form rules for issuing divorce certificates to Non-Muslims within 90 days.
Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh issued a seven-page ruling on a petition filed by Shumaila to add her father’s name on her national identity card (NIC) after she got divorced. The appellant had maintained that the union council did not issue divorce certificates to Non-Muslims and NADRA did not change add changes to the NIC without a certificate.
The Justice remarked that it was mandatory to formulate rules under the Punjab Local Government Act. “NADRA should facilitate the applicants until rules are formed”, he added. The court also ordered the appellant to again request NADRA for the NIC.
