CAA incident: no one allowed to misuse religion, say religious scholars

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Religious scholars from both Muslim and Christian communities on Wednesday lent support to a Christian official of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) against a Muslim colleague who had threatened to harm her using false blasphemy case.

A delegation of scholars from different sects met the woman and assured her of support.

“We met our sister and assured her that we stand by her both on the religious as well as legal grounds,” said the Ulema Amn Council Pakistan chairman Allama Ziaullah Sialvi.

The Islamic scholar said, “No one would be allowed to misuse religion against ‘our non-Muslim brethren’ since it not only defamed the country, but also set wrong examples to victimise anyone for personal benefit.”

In a viral video, a CAA official, who was identified as Salim, was seen threatening a woman colleague to accuse her of committing blasphemy as she disallowed entry of a vehicle without number plate in the cargo area at the Karachi airport. The man was later suspended from service, claimed the CAA.

The ulema also requested the CAA DG to take disciplinary action against the official involved.
