Qureshi schools NA speaker Ashraf for accepting resignations of 34 PTI lawmakers

LAHORE (Dunya News) – As National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf accepted the resignations of 34 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, the party’s vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi slammed the former on Tuesday.

Speaking to media, the former federal minister took a dig at Mr Ashraf, asking him to denotify 125 PTI lawmakers rather than 34. He made it clear to Mr Ashraf the PTI had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against him "for his double standards."

He claimed that many of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) lawmakers had shown interest in joining the PTI. Mr Qureshi added, "Everyone is aware of the fact that, for what purposes, such decisions are being taken."

Mr Qureshi slammed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), claiming that PTI members were de-notified in order to shorten the run-off.

Continuing to take a jibe at his political opponents, Mr Qureshi said, "When we talked to testing the Prime Minister with a vote of confidence, the opponents started to panic. "But when we were asked to take a vote of confidence, we left no stone unturned to fulfil the government’s demand."

Recounting the demand of elections, Mr Qureshi said, "We have a one-point agenda on holding elections in the country."

Lambasting the government over the economic situation, Mr Qureshi lamented that the PDM-led government was not concerned about the poor people, adding that today the country was witnessing the closure of the industries and there was chaos everywhere.
