PTI challenges FIA inquiry over prohibited funding case in IHC

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued notices to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) against a probe by the agency in the prohibited funding case.

Hearing the petition, Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court ordered the FIA to adopt measures as per law and club this petition with a similar one already fixed for hearing on October 19.

PTI, in its plea argued that the inquiry into the funds is illegal and its leaders are being harassed for political reasons. The party has prayed to the court to bar officials from conducting raids and arrests of PTI leaders.

It merits mention that the FIA had launched a probe into the PTI’s prohibited funding after the ECP’s findings were announced.

The investigative agency has arrested two PTI leaders and summoned several other senior leaders, including former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser in connection with the inquiry.
