Punjab govt refuses submission of requisition for new province

Punjab govt rejects requisition regarding Saraiki province terming it against the Constitution.

The Opposition rejected the government claim and has put the requisitions on the agenda of the Punjab Assembly.The Punjab government said that according to the sub-section 4 of Article 239 of the Constitution, the requisition for new provinces could not be brought in the provincial assembly before submitting in the National Assembly and the Senate.Therefore, the requisition regarding the Southern Punjab province could not be permitted to keep on the agenda of the Punjab Assembly.On the contrary, the Opposition has decided to hold a protest on the eve of the session in the Punjab Assembly on August 11.The Opposition has also claimed to have support of the government members Assembly on the issue.
