Female PO, husband arrested for alleged rigging ahead KP LG polls

Presiding Officer shifted to the police station under security cordon.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – A female presiding officer and her husband were arrested in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) a day before the local body elections on charges of alleged rigging.
Opposition parties had alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate’s marks were being stamped in Neighborhood Councils 33 and 34 in Gore Ghatri tehsil.
Provincial Election Commissioner Sharifullah also reached the spot.
Talking to media, Sharifullah said that the presiding officer and her husband have been transferred to the police station and all the materials will be handed over to the new staff.
Assistant Commissioner Ehtesham Khan said that all the staff of the concerned polling station would be handcuffed and taken to Karthana. A case would be registered against all the staff.
The situation at the polling station became tense, after which a heavy contingent of police was deployed.
On the other hand, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja has issued instructions to the officers regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local body elections.
The Chief Election Commissioner has directed the Provincial Election Commissioner Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be diligent regarding the local body elections.
Sikandar Sultan Raja directed that all resources should be utilized during the elections for holding transparent and fair elections.
