Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar said Pakistan Army has more than 2,000 check posts along Pak-Afghan border

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar on Friday said that in view of the unpredictable situation in Afghanistan, movement along Pakistan-Afghanistan border had already been controlled.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi on Friday, he said that the Pakistani side of the border is completely safe and security measures were being taken in the context of the Afghan situation.

"We have made best possible arrangements for Afghan border," the DG ISPR said and added situation in Afghanistan has changed rapidly since August 15.

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar said fencing on the Pak-Afghan border was a big project and 90 percent of the work on the Pak-Afghan border has been completed, while 50 percent of the work of fencing along the Iranian border has been completed.

“Pakistan Army has more than 2,000 check posts along Pak-Afghan border while Afghanistan only had 350 check posts,” he added.

He said there has been no major incident but we have taken maximum measures and moved our regular troops to the border to cope with any situation.

"The Taliban leadership have conveyed that they will not let the Afghan soil used against any other country," he said, adding Pakistan believes that they will take measures so that the Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) may not able to operate against Pakistan or any other country.

"The TTP has no organized infrastructure in Pakistan and that is why they are taking refuge in Afghanistan," he added.

The DG ISPR said that Afghan National Army personnel had crossed the border into Pakistan for refuge.

He said that thousands of Afghan army personnel had received training from India, while only six Afghan cadets came to Pakistan for officer training, adding that Pakistan had offered to train Afghan Special Forces training.

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar the TTP has no organized infrastructure in Pakistan and that is why they are taking refuge in Afghanistan, adding that India s role in Afghanistan has been extremely negative.

He said India has no love loss for Afghan people and they made investments in Afghanistan and developed their clout there only to harm Pakistan.

The DG ISPR further said Pakistan has continously been cautioning the world about the negative role played by spoilers of peace for their vested interests in Afghanistan.
