ECP summons Yousaf Raza Gillani on March 22 in disqualification case

PTI has filed a petition in ECP seeking disqualification of the PPP leader.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on has summoned Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son Ali Haider Gillani on March 22 in connection with disqualification plea filed by ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The ECP has directed the Senator to appear in person or through his lawyer for the hearing which will be conducted on Monday.

The petition has been filed by PTI leaders Farrukh Habib and Kanwal Shauzab, seeking disqualification of Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani over the leaked video of Ali Haider Gillani.

The petition states that it is clear in the video that Ali Haider Gilani, an MPA from Multan, was telling members of National Assembly how to waste their votes in order to benefit his father Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.

It further states that after the video went viral, Ali Haider Gillani himself appeared before the media and admitted that he tried to influence the Senate election. Therefore, the Election Commission is appealed to take action against Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son under Section 174 of the Election Act 2017.
