After the restoration of Police Act 1861, the post of DIG Karachi has also been restored.

According the ordinance issued by Sindh acting governor, investigation police will be merged in operation police.The posts of SHO and TPO investigation will also be abolished. Registration of cases will be responsibility of SHOs in Karachi and they will investigate the cases as well. There would be 5 SSPs. and slots of DCOs and RPOs would also be abolished.The post of DIG Karachi will be upgraded to that of Additional IG but an officer of DIG rank will be appointed on it.
