All Karol Ghati residents to be DNA tested to find Motorway rape culprits

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The perpetrators of Wednesday night’s heinous crime are still at large, forcing the authorities to expand the scope of the investigation.

According to sources, after the DNA tests of 15 arrested suspects did not match the criminal, it was decided that DNA tests of all residents of nearby Karol Ghati will be conducted.

According to Dunya News sources, a field hospital will be set up near Karol Valley for DNA sampling of all residents.

It was earlier reported that the concerned authorities have shortlisted over 70 people with criminal records and their location at the time of the incident is also being monitored. Detectives have also been hired for the inspection of footprints collected from the crime scene.

IG Punjab Inam Ghani also visited the crime scene on Lahore-Sialkot Motorway. He reviewed the patrolling of joint teams of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) and Special Protection Unit (SPU).

On this occasion, he issued various instructions to Additional IGP PHP, Capt (retd) Zafar Iqbal and said that the deployment of police teams was aimed at providing security to the commuters on this road.

IG Punjab Inam Ghani said that all possible facilities and security would be provided to the citizens as per the SOPs issued. With the deployment of police teams, citizens will be able to use the motorway safely.

The IG Punjab said that the investigation into the incident was being carried out on modern scientific lines. Punjab police will soon arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice, he added.
