Motorway rape case: Accused Abid, Shafqat sentenced to death

The verdict in motorway rape case was announced by anti-terrorism court in Lahore.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has sentenced accused Abid Malhi and Shafqat Bagga to death in Motorway rape case.

The court announced the sentence to the accused under sections 376, 362 and 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Both accused Abid Malhi and Shafqat Bagga were sentenced to death under sections 376, life imprisonment under section 365 and 14 years jail sentence under section 362.

Also, the ATC imposed a fine of Rs 50 thousand on each accused and ordered to confiscate their property.

Anti-terrorism court presiding Judge Arshad Hussain heard the case in Camp Jail. During the trial, 37 witnesses came forward to record their statements.

On September 9, 2020, mother of two children was looted and raped at gunpoint on Lahore-Sialkot motorway in Gujjarpura area on the outskirts of the provincial capital.
