Ashraf Ghani calls PM Imran Khan, discusses final phase of Afghan peace process

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has phoned Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss the last phase of the Afghan peace process.

The Afghan President extended Eid-ul-Azha greetings to Imran Khan and discussed the situation of coronavirus in the region. On this occasion, Imran Khan expressed grief over deaths in Afghanistan due to the virus and hoped that the Afghan government would soon overcome the pandemic.

Prime Minister Imran Khan apprised Ashraf Ghani of his government’s policy to deal with coronavirus and said that in addition to dealing with the virus, special attention was paid to maintaining job security and economic activity in the country.

According to sources, the two leaders also discussed the final phase of the Afghan peace process. The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s positive role in the peace process and said that peace in Afghanistan was of paramount importance to the region’s stability. He said that accelerating the peace process would also help the implementation of peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban.
