Draft of uniform curriculum policy prepared after lengthy consultations

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In a significant development in preparation of the country’s uniform curriculum policy, the draft has been prepared after lengthy consultations between the provinces and concerned authorities.

According to details, a meeting of the third National Curriculum Council was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood in which provincial education ministers, concerned secretaries and other officials participated.

A statement issued after the meeting said that workshops on uniform national curriculum were held in all four provinces while a four-day workshop was also held at the national level.

Addressing the meeting, Shafqat Mehmood said that the issue of uniform national curriculum was very close to our hearts as it will help eliminate class system in education.

He clarified that there is no ambiguity on the issue of language, teachers will teach in the language which will be easier for the child to understand.

Shafqat Mehmood said that English would be taught as a foreign language. The federal government should develop a model textbook that is a benchmark for all provinces and units, he added.

The education minister said provinces could also introduce additional materials, while taking care that students are not overburdened. The main goal of a uniform education system is to eliminate injustices in the pursuit of education and to diminish the class gap in the field of education, he said.
