PTI government has inflicted heavy loss of billions of rupees on the exchequer: Shehbaz Sharif

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday has said Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) confirmation that pilot licenses issued by it are genuine is a charge sheet against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the PML-N leader said that through the ill-considered actions, the government has damaged Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and inflicted heavy loss of billions of rupees on the exchequer in addition to bringing a bad name to the country.

The reaction came day after Federal Aviation Administration had assigned Pakistan a Category 2 rating because it does not comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards under the FAA’s International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program.

The move effectively bars any Pakistani airline from flying into the U.S. or participating in a code-share relationship with a U.S. carrier.

Earlier, European Union Aviation Safety Agency had suspended the Third Country Operator (TCO) authorization of Pakistani carriers PIA and Vision Air amid findings that “a large portion” of licenses issued to Pakistani pilots proved invalid.
