Sindh govt puts three conditions before federation on tax issue

Sindh government stopped collection of withholding tax two days ago.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – After disagreement over coronavirus and locust swarms issues, the Sindh government has put three conditions before the federation on tax matter, Dunya News reported on Thursday.

According to details, the Sindh government stopped collection of withholding tax two days ago and the decision was announced by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Sindh collects taxes and also faces deductions, he had said.

A meeting was held between Sindh excise secretary and the FBR officials. The provincial regime has put three conditions before the federal government and has said that it will start collecting tax only after these demands are fulfilled. The conditions are:

a) The federal government must reimburse Rs seven billion to the province deducted in the name of tax collection.

b) The federal cabinet must forward a formal application to the Sindh government for tax collection.

c) Notification to withdraw withholding tax on motorbikes must be retracted.
