Consider Pakistan my second home, says Erdogan in joint press conference with PM Imran
PM Imran said IOJ&K is not Indian territory but a disputed territory according to UN resolutions.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday while welcoming Turkish President Receip Tayyip Erdogan said that a new chapter has been opened in Pakistan-Turkey relations.
Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad on Friday, he thanked the Turkish President on his stance on Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) and said that India has jailed Hurriyet leadership and youth occupied Valley.
Imran Khan said that IOJ&K is not Indian territory but a disputed territory according to UN resolutions.. “8 million Kashmiris have been under siege for the past six months,” Khan said adding that India has deprived Kashmiris of their just rights.
The prime minister went on to say that Pakistan and Turkey have signed 13 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) which would be the start of new era.
“Turkey earned more than $170 billion annually from the tourism sector, he said and added Pakistan should learn from Erdogan s experience and maximize its tourism potential as well.
PM Imran said: “Turkey has not only supported Pakistan on Kashmir issue but also on the issue of Finance Action Task Force (FATF)." “I had asked Erdogan, he would clean sweep if he contested elections in Pakistan.”
Speaking on the occasion, Turkish President Erdogan thanked Pakistan for warm welcome and said that he was happy to visit Pakistan after three years.
“I consider Pakistan my second home,” Erdogan said and added Turkey will always standby Pakistan. He also thanked PM Imran and the authorities for the hospitality.
Number of MoUs, agreements signed
A number of Memoranda of Understandings and agreements were signed between Pakistan and Turkey in Islamabad today (Friday) to enhance cooperation in different fields.
The two countries signed joint declaration on strategic economic framework between the two countries.
The document was signed and exchanged by Prime Minister Imran Khan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
A cooperation agreement was signed between TRT Turkey and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. DG PBC Samina Waqar signed and exchanged the document with her Turkish counterpart.
Similar agreement was signed by TRT Turkey and PTV which was signed by MD PTV Amer Manzoor and his Turkish counterpart.
Erdogan addresses joint session of the Parliament
Earlier today while addressing a joint session of the Parliament in Islamabad on Friday (today) which had been summoned by President Dr Arif Alvi Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that Pakistan-Turkey relations are admirable for the entire world.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it is an honor to address this House and thanked Pakistan for providing him with the opportunity. I am grateful for the hospitality and it feels like home here, he said.
“Pakistan and Turkey share common religion, culture and values. Our friendship has evolved in love and affection. We share each other’s joys and sorrows.
“The spirit of the Muslims of the subcontinent to get freedom is unforgettable and Kashmir holds the same significance for Turkey as it has for Pakistan.
“I assure my support for Pakistan before the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) despite pressure. I thank Pakistani nation for supporting Turkey in every hour of need.
“Economic progress is not achieved in some days. It becomes possible only after continuous hard work. I have come to Pakistan with a big group of investors as environment for trade is becoming conducive here after steps taken by the Pakistan government.
“I salute Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism. The international community has left Syria alone whereas Turkey is investing $ 40 billion on Syrians to protect them from atrocities.
“It is our religious and moral duty to stand by the oppressed Muslims. The Turkish army has been fighting against separatist organizations for 35 years.
“Turkey will stand with Pakistan in future as well and I pray that the love between both countries lasts forever.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan was received by Prime Minister Imran Khan when he reached the Parliament House. The members stood up to welcome their guest upon his arrival.
President Erdogan, Alvi meeting
Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan and Turkey agreed to extend mutual support on issues of each other’s core national interest and underscored the importance of fully realizing the immense potential of relationship between the two countries.
The understanding was reached at meeting between President Dr Arif Alvi and his Turkish Counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Islamabad. They also underlined transforming this relation into a strong and dynamic trade and economic partnership.
Welcoming the President Erdogan to Pakistan, Dr Alvi expressed gratification over the level of enhanced and multifaceted engagement between the two countries.
He said that the 6th Session of High Level Strategic Cooperation Council will further strengthen and broaden the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Turkey.
Dr Alvi also apprised President Erdogan of the worsening human rights situation in India-Occupied Kashmir and took the opportunity to thank President Erdogan for his principled stand on Kashmir.
A warm welcome was accorded to the Turkish President and First Lady of Turkey Emine Erdogan over their arrival at the presidency. President Arif Alvi later hosted banquet in honour of the distinguished guests.
Warm Welcome
Erdogan was accorded a warm red-carpet welcome when he arrived on a two-day official visit.
Prime Minister Imran Khan received the Turkish leader at the Nur Khan Airbase. Senior Pakistani officials as well as the Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan were also present on the occasion.
Two children, clad in traditional Pakistani costume, presented bouquet to President Erdogan and the Turkish First Lady. Contingent of static guards presented salute to the visiting dignitaries.
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan himself drove President Erdogan to the Prime Minister House for welcome ceremony.
The Turkish President was also presented a guard of honour during an official welcome ceremony held at the Prime Minister House. National anthems of the two countries were also played on the occasion.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Recep Rayyip Erdogan introduced their respective delegations.
