Sindh IGP Kaleem rejects news of his transfer

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Differences emerged between the Sindh government and Inspector General of Sindh Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam over the issue of appointment of new IGP Sindh, sources told.

According to sources, the arrest of Saeed Jamali, the brother of a political figure from Dadu is reported to have been the main reason behind the differences between the Sindh government and Inspector General of Sindh Police Dr Syed Kaleem Imam.

Sources further said that Saeed Jamali was involved in torturing officials of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO).

On the other hand, the second reason behind the differences between the IGP Sindh and provincial government is the arrest of the son of a political figure who thrashed police personnel, the differences also emerged on the funds for the renovation of police stations.

In addition, the arrest of a prominent political leader in Badin and the recovery of former Sindh minister Zulfiqar Mirza s 1200 acres land also caused differences between Syed Murad Ali Shah’s Sindh government and Kaleem Imam.

Muhammed Sallah Shahlani’s, an alleged dacoit, arrest on charges of killing 5 policemen also created tensions.

On January 28, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Kaleem Imam, while reacting to certain speculations that he has been transferred from his post, said on Tuesday that he “won’t leave that easily and he has not yet been transferred.”

“A (false) impression is being given that I have been transferred […] even if I am transferred, I am worth my weight in gold,” he said while addressing a ceremony in Karachi. “A big conspiracy was built against me.

This ceremony is being considered as my farewell ceremony […] It seems like Sindh police are trying to save its budget,” he added. Later, Dr Kaleem, contradicted himself and gave clarification on his today’s remarks that his comments were presented wrongly on the media. “I used the word “conspiracy” in a joke when I was addressing officers during a ceremony,” he said.

In a meeting held on the province’s overall law and order situation, the Sindh cabinet expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of IGP Kaleem Imam. Names of Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Mushtaq Mehar and Dr Jameel came under consideration as Imam’s replacement during the meeting. Majority of the cabinet members chose Thebo as their first choice, but left the final decision on the issue to the Sindh chief minister.

The cabinet also requested the chief minister to initiate disciplinary action against Imam by sending a detailed statement, with proof of his misconduct, to the establishment division.
