ECP fixes hearing for bail plea demanding Faisal Vawda's disqualification

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set the hearing date of a plea seeking disqualification of Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda on February 03.

Chairman Aman Taraki Party, Faiq Shah in his petition stated that Vawda is no longer Sadiq and Ameen (truthful and trustworthy) as he concealed his dual citizenship and submitted a false affidavit in the ECP with his nomination papers. He added the Supreme Court has already disqualified two MNAs for having dual nationality.

The petition filed for the disqualification of Faisal Wowda in the Election Commission will be heard on February 3, the Election Commission issued notices to the parties. 

On Jan 20, an investigative report revealed that Faisal Vawda have committed perjury by falsely declaring in an oath to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that he did not hold any foreign nationality.

Vawda was in possession of a United States passport at the time he filed his nomination papers on June 11, 2018. The minister remained an American national even at the time the scrutiny of his nomination papers was completed.

On Jan 17, Sessions court in Lahore on Friday has conducted hearing on a plea seeking registration of case against Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda for bringing boot in a private news channel’s talk show.

During the hearing, judge Saifullah remarked someone should inform Faisal Vawda and relevant station house officer (SHO) that local lawyer has filed a petition to lodge case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader.

In the plea, the plaintiff said that Faisal Vawda has insulted the national institutions by lifting boot in the talk show. Federal minister’s this move has defamed the image of prestigious institutions, he added.

The claimant further told that a petition was also submitted against PTI leader in police station but no case was filed so far.
