The daily power outage increased by three hours as the electricity shortfall reached 3,300MW.
According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the country is generating 13,460 megawatt of electricity while the current demand is 16,790 megawatt, so the country is facing a power deficit of 3,330 megawatt. The reason behind the current shortfall is the reduction in the production of the rental power plants and the independent power producers (IPPs). The production of the IPPs has fallen to 763 megawatt with a reduction of 400 megawatt while the rental power plants are just generating 62 megawatt after a decline of 106 megawatt. The water resources are producing 5,086 megawatt as usual, whereas thermal power production is delivering 1,549 megawatt of electricity. The power outage is varying between six hours a day in the urban areas and nine hours a day in the rural areas.
