The event raised about 63.9 million rupees.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Ministry of Communications Tuesday auctioned 66 out of 76 luxury vehicles under the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s austerity drive.

The event raised about 63.9 million rupees as the bidders did not take part in the auction of eight luxury vehicles. The remaining two vehicles were not put up for auction.

The next phase will take place in Peshawar on Wednesday where 15 cars will be put up for auction, an event that has been billed as part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s drive to give “the nation’s wealth to its rightful owners”.

The prime minister has promised to cut costs, including trimming motorcades of government officials and selling public land.

“It is a change of mindset,” he said in a speech. “I will be counting every single rupee I have to spend on me.”
