Senate approves Elections Laws Amendment Bill 2011
The Senate on Tuesday unanimously approved the Elections Laws Amendment Bill 2011.
Federal Law Minister Baber Awan presented the bill, claiming that Election Commission of Pakistan had been made an independent institution.Senator Waseem Sajjad of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) said that the PML-Q had made a mistake when it completed five years and the PPP should not repeat it.Senator Raza Rabbani said that the meeting of the implementation commission would be held within two days. The meeting will decide the transfer of ministries to the provinces in its third phase, he added. He said that five ministries including two departments of the finance ministry, three department of the communication ministry and one department of the shipping and port, the revenue division and the interior ministry had been transferred to the province in the second phase.Senator Javed Ashrif Qazi of the PML-Q said that after the transfer of the education ministry, every province would decide about its syllabus which would create hurdles in the implementation of a uniform education policy across the country.Raza Rabbani said that Javed thinks himself as a genius but he (Rabbani) had a great understanding of the issue. He said that Javed used to come in uniform but now he had removed the uniform.
