Elections 2018: More power to the candidates dare to buck the odds

Elections 2018 is all set to showcase some daring, dissident and defiant contestants
(WebDesk) - Pakistan is a different country. The completion of the decade of democracy with the consecutive transference of power and dominance from one elected government to another with an end of PMLN led government tenure, is being considered a sanguine omen for strengthening the roots of democracy in Pakistan and assiduous pavement of way for the rule of people in Pakistan.
This general election in Pakistan is marking out some interesting, appealing and pleasantly surprising altering trends in support of democracy being matured and trickled down in the lowest and marginalized section of the society.
Elections 2018 is all set to showcase some daring, dissident and defiant contestants who have decided to stand up against the political elites ruling them for year and years and yet did not manage to bring development and prosperity in their regions and for their people.
Here is given a glimpse on the guts of these courageous unsung heroes, set to challenge the customary odds of the politics in Pakistan:
Lali – The rebel of Tharparkar

Liberated from the private prison of a feudal lord, Lali Kolhan, the fearless, the defiant and the valiant is all set to dare the influential, the prominent and the experienced like feudal politician Ali Mardan Shah and a former Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim in the battlefield of PS-52 UmerKot.
The general elections 2018 are different in many ways. A glimpse of it can be seen in the constituency of PS-52 Umerkot, where the commanding and controlling elites are now being challenged by the middle-aged women Lali, a poor peasant who had unconstrained herself from the private prison of a feudal lord.

Despite the poor are in majority and had taken the feudal lords to the power corridors of parliament but never gained any perk in return and still are living the same deprived, demeaned and disadvantaged life’, said Lali Kolhan.
She has been allotted the electoral symbol of ‘pitcher’. Lali associates her electoral symbol with the hardships and sufferings of the women walk every day miles in search of water.
Lali and her supporters are running a rigorous election campaign against the bigwigs of Pakistan’s dynastic and customary politics on feet and of no potential resources. Still, Lali Kolhan is an optimistic woman. She believes in her people for the change that bring progress and prosperity to their long riddled lives since ages in the hands of the regional lords of puissance and power.

Feroza Lashari – The youngest lawmaker on the way

Feroza Lashari is the youngest among all the candidates in PS-02, contesting for the elections 2018. She has been fielded by the Ghunwa Bhutto led Pakistan People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto) in Jacobabad for the provincial constituency where she will be running in the race against the political heavy weights like Sohrab Khan Sarki of PPP, Tahir Hussain Khoso of PTI, Shah Muhammad Syed of MMA, Mola Bux of GDA (Grand Democratic Alliance) and Muhammad Sharif of TPP (Tabdeeli Pasand Party).
A recent alumnus of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khair pur is surprisingly the only female candidate of her own party as the party head, Ghunwa Bhutto has not partaken in general elections 2018.

Belonging to a middle class family of interior Sindh, Lashari is all geared up to flare the flames of competition in a patriarchal and male chauvinistic society where women are being killed in the name of honor and being used as a commodity. In a society, where the exploitation of women is part of the customs and a tradition, a young female contestant like Feroza Lashari emerges as an omen for good change.
Feroza Lashari might have been seen running low with the budget and resources but her zeal, commitment and determination is explicitly contagious. She knocks every door, visit every peasant working in fields and every shopkeeper in a market for the support and vote.
Winning PS-02 seat in Jacobabad, Lashari will become the first female candidate ever defeated the male powerful and influential rival contestants from this constituency. Also, she will be joining the floor of Sindh Assembly as the youngest law maker as well.

Nadeem Kashish – The debutant transgender

Among the political robusts like Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and Former Prime Minister contesting against each other, a transgender candidate has also dared to face them in the same constituency.
She in best possible get up, dresses herself, knocking door to door, roams in streets. She is eager to get herself acquainted with the voters and supporters of the constituency. She as an independent candidate has been allotted ‘radio’ as an electoral symbol.

Nadeem said that her community would get recognition, identification and respect if being trusted and ge elected against the established politicians, taking turns one after another and still fail in delivering the substantial development and progress.
She is determined to reach door to door to influence the people to vote her.

Raja Imran, a differently-abled man, is one such common person who vies to defy all odds by running for elections 2018.
Contesting the elections from the area of PP 14 in Rawalpindi, the candidate claims that people with disabilities are often overlooked and not given proper rights in the society. Hence if elected he promises to raise their voice in the country’s power corridors.
Raja Imran, who has chosen a pencil as his election symbol, conducts door-to-door campaigns himself by engaging with, asking for votes from, and helping the locals in day-to-day affairs. Imran’s bravery, vision and determination have made it clear that for Raja Imran disability is secondary and is something that can never come in the way of his dreams.

Ali Begum – A 69 year old candidate from Parachinar

Ali Begum, a 69 year old retired civil servant from Parachinar has kicked off her political campaign for a seat in National Assembly.
The tribal woman is all set to contest elections 2018 from NA-46 of Kurram agency of former FATA, now KPK, vying against 23 male contenders.
While campaigning for elections, she puts an immense emphasis on the role and rights of the woman in the tribal society. She also stresses on unity, sectarian harmony and the need of development for the prosperity of the region.
Ali Begum is a Pakistani citizen by birth but also held the US Citizenship which she gave up before taking a decision to contest elections 2018 from her native home town, Parachinar.
She showed a sheer bravery to take part into the politics from such a conservative region where relatively rare a woman dares to raise her voice.

Salim Ansari – The rich-hearted candidate for poor

For elections 2018, PPP has also given the party ticket to extremely underprivileged candidate, Salim Ansari in Gujranwala. Ansari works in a factory. Despite being Labor, Ansari is excited to run his election campaign.
Salim Ansari is living in a small abode along with his two young brothers. To persuade the voters of his constituency, he opted a unique way to interact. He along with his friend, ride in streets to entreat voters’ support.
Middle class Salim Ansari is highly supported by his neighbors, friends and family. His people are pleased to have Ansari as their representative.
Salim Ansari intends to resolve the poor people s concerns and grievances after being elected from PP-57 in elections 2018.

Jawad Ahmad – The artist contestant

The talented singer and philanthropist Jawad Ahmad has established his own political party in 2017. He registered his political party with ECP with the name of Barabri Party Pakistan from Karachi. He also intends to contest election from the platform of his party. The Islamabad based singer turned politician, Jawad Ahmad also runs a welfare project, Education for All.
Tota Pehlwan – The owner of colorful parrots candidate
Najam ul Hassan, a former Pehlwan, contesting as an independent candidate from PP 111, is an interesting candidate. He is also famous as Tota Pehlwan. Being an owner of many colorful and chirping birds, he believes in the magic to win polls through his varied coloured birds attracting more and more voters ahead of elections 2018.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has allotted him the same bird as his electoral symbol which he has been nurturing in a big number for many years. Indeed, multi-colored parrots at the residence of Tota Pahelwan are a source of people’s attention. They not only amuse the owner but also the people who visit him and are likely to be his voters too.
The former Pahelwan of Faislabad, believes that on July 25 he will win with a huge margin.

Ayaz Motiwala – The bizarre player

In a bid to amass support and highlight plummeting standards of life in metropolis, an independent candidate from Karachi has resorted to bizarre tactics resisting the traditional ways of slogans, pamphlets, posters, public gatherings and other customary activities to persuade a voter.
In distinct style of campaigning, Ayaz Memon Motiwala was seen drinking sewerage water while enjoying a meal right in the middle of dumpster.

The independent candidate was also spotted around garbage disposal sites. Going a step further, Motiwala even entered inside manholes. His tactics have become talk of the town with both social and international media giving him coverage.
