(Web Desk) – Polling for 52 seats of the senate concluded on Saturday as various MPAs and MNAs cast their votes amid tight security in and around the parliament and all provincial assemblies.
For 52 seats, 131 contestants participated in the senate elections. Polling in all four provincial assemblies and the parliament started at 9am and continued until 4pm.
Candidates of ruling PML-N contested the polls as independent candidates after the top court earlier this year ruled that all tickets issued to candidates for Senate elections by disqualified Nawaz Sharif were annulled.
Rangers and personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) were deployed outside all four provincial assemblies and the parliament to maintain security during voting and election of fresh senators for a term of six years.
