Ashiana scheme case: Shahid Shafiq to be presented in accountability court today
The accused was arrested on the identification of Ahad Cheema.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chief Executive of Bismillah Engineering Services Shahid Shafiq will be presented before accountability court in Ashiana Housing scandal today (Monday).
The accused was arrested on the identification of former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema after it was discovered that Rs.14bn contract had been granted to Bismillah Services despite the company being a C-4 category subsidiary company of Paragon City.
Shafiq was presented in the court of magistrate Syed Ali Jawad Naqvi during which, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lawyer told that Shahid Shafiq took contract of Ashiana Housing Scheme on fake documents that badly affected the country’s treasure.
Shafiq’s counsel raised objection when NAB demanded his physical remand, saying that media trial of his client is being held.
The medical report of Shahid Shafiq termed torture allegations of his wife as baseless, revealing that the accused is mentally and physically healthy. He was also allowed to meet his wife for 1:05 hour at NAB office.
Earlier, NAB had obtained details regarding mobile phone calls and emails of Ahad Cheema while the bureau had also sought expert’s assistance to recover the data.
Cheema was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from the MM Alam Road in Lahore over corruption allegations regarding taking 32 kanal land as a bribe. He had not appeared before the NAB despite several summon.
Afterwards, opposition leaders had staged a symbolic walkout in the Punjab Assembly, asking why Cheema was given promotion.
On the other hand, DMG workers also closed their offices on the directives of Additional Chief Secretary Umar Rasool in protest against the detention of Ahad Cheema.
During the meeting with Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif, the officers demanded to release Cheema, saying that if the arrest is necessary then he should be nabbed in proper way.
