(Web Desk) – Leading human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir was laid to rest in Lahore on Tuesday following funeral prayers which were offered at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Thousands of mourners attended the funeral of Jahangir, who died of cardiac arrest on Sunday at the age of 66.

The funeral, which was led by Haider Farooq Maududi, was attended by a large number of lawyers and judges including Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Yawar Ali Shah. Members of the civil society, activists and journalists also took part in the funeral on Tuesday afternoon. A large number of women also participated in the funeral of Jahangir, who was seen as a staunch campaigner of women s equality in the Pakistani society.

Following her death, condolences poured in from across the world. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, former premier Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif and other noted politicians and activists also offered their condolences.
