Abdul Quddus Bizenjo elected as new Balochistan chief minister
The polling was held in Balochistan assembly.
QUETTA (Dunya News) - Former Balochistan Assembly deputy speaker Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was elected as the new chief minister of the province on Saturday.
A one-to-one contest occured between Paksiatn Muslim League-Quaid’s (PML-Q) Bizenjo and Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party’s (PkMAP) Agha Syed Liaqat Ali after Abdul Rahim Khan Ziaratwal of his party left the race in his favour.
The session of the house was headed by speaker Raheela Durrani. More than 50 members were present in the assembly for the polling.
The nominated candidate of PML-N dissidents and PML-Q legislators, Bizenjo succeeded to gain 41 votes while his opponent received only 13.
Strict security arrangements were made for today’s session. All the roads linking to Balochistan assembly were sealed whereas the traffic police appealed the citizens to avoid travelling on Zarghoon road and use alternate routes instead from 9am to 9pm.
The opposition in the Balochistan assembly had announced full support to Abdul Quddus Bizenjo after Sanaullah Zehri resigned due to lawmakers’ no-confidence motion.
However; National Party has refused to support the nominated candidates.
The oath-taking ceremony will probably be held in the evening. Balochistan governor will administer oath to the elected Chief Minister.
