(Web Desk) – Becoming the first ever western politician to do so, Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan of Pakistani descent, crossed the Wagah border on foot to reach Lahore via Amrtisar on Wednesday.

Visiting the city’s historical places including the Badshahi Mosque and the tomb of Allama Iqbal, Khan thanked the people of Pakistan for the warm welcome that he received. Banners bearing welcome messages had also been put up on the city main artery – the Mall road ahead of Khan’s visit.

During his visit to Punjab’s provincial capital Lahore, Khan met CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and attended cultural events held in his honour. He was also part of an interactive panel discussion held in Lahore. The British delegation led by Khan has now left for Islamabad.
