Doctors have advised to avoid air travel, Dar writes to PM

Dunya News has obtained the copy of Dar's leave of absence (without salary) on medical grounds.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who was relieved from his job on Wednesday, wrote in his letter to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that doctors have advised him not to undertake international air travel owing to heart problem.

Dunya News has obtained the copy of Ishaq Dar’s leave of absence (without salary) on medical grounds that he forwarded to PM Abbasi and handed over the charge of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs Division.

The letter stated that Dar felt acute pain and heaviness in the chest immediately after performing Umrah on October 28, 2017, and was advised by a local doctor to go back to the cardiologist whom he had consulted three weeks earlier.

It was told that the minister reached London on October 29, 2017, and consulted the cardiologist who advised him to undergo a cardiac angiogram and fixed the date of November 3, 2017, for this purpose.

The letter added that Dar consulted a cardiothoracic surgeon in London on November 6, 2017, following the angiogram which showed diffuse coronary heart disease and possible ischaemic heart disease, and the surgeon recommended further tests on November 16, 2017.

Ishaq Dar told that the surgeon has recommended that I should not undertake any international air travel under current condition, and the next test has been fixed for Monday, November 27, 2017.

The minister stated in his letter, “I would request that the Prime Minister may kindly grant me leave under Section 17 of the Federal Ministers and Minister of State (Salaries, Allowances And Privileges) Act, 1975.”

It is worth mentioning here that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi then approved the three-month sick leave sought by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

It has also been learnt that Dar has been relieved from heading the Pak-Russia joint commission. PM transferred this responsibility to Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, the sources claimed.
