Candidates of Asma Jahangir's Independent group emerged victorious in SCBA elections.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Candidates of Asma Jahangir’s Independent group emerged victorious in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections 2017-18 and clinched the seats of SCBA president as well as general secretary.

According to details, Syed Muhammad Kaleem Ahmed Khursheed was elected the president after securing 1142 votes, and Safdar Hussain Tarar was appointed the general secretary with 1372 votes.

Both candidates defeated Hamid Khan’s Professional group after a tough battle. Professional group’s Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari secured 1064 votes for the post of president, and Mian Muhammad Aslam got 763 votes for the post of general secretary.

Qamar-uz-Zaman Qureshi became the SCBA vice-president with 1159 votes after beating Malik Imtiaz who got 993 votes.



The newly appointed president Syed Muhammad Kaleem Ahmed Khursheed talked to media afterwards and said he has the only agenda of humanity, and will work for the supremacy of the law and the constitution.

The balloting for the SCBA elections was on Tuesday held in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Bahawalpur and Abbottabad. The voting time for the election was from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM. 44 candidates contested the election for 22 seats.

There were 2,289 registered voters for the SCBA elections, and majority of them belonged to Lahore. Chairman Election Board Afrasiyab Khan monitored the elections that were peacefully concluded.
