ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan on Thursday appeared before Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in contempt of court case.

He is accompanied by PTI counsel Babar Awan, Secretary General Jahangir Tareen and leaders Shafqat Mehmood and Naeemul Haque.

During the hearing, Babar Awan requested the court to annul proceedings against Imran Khan. Chief Election Commissioner asked whether Khan has apologized from the court. The councel replied that they have submitted reply in the court twice and have also taken back their words.

However; he refused to tender apology to the court over the contempt accusations. On the contrary, Akbar S Babar’s lawyer asked the court to conduct proceedings against Khan as per law.

Election Commission after hearing the arguments has directed Imran Khan to submit written apology in the court.

The commission had issued non-bailable arrest warrant for Imran Khan against which Islamabad High Court (IHC) was approached. During the hearing, Justice Aamer Farooq had directed the PTI chief to reply to the ECP’s show-cause notice.

The ECP had issued contempt notice to Imran Khan in January 2017 over his remarks about the commission in a petition filed by Akbar S Babar.
