'Cold war' between Sindh government and Police IG remains tense

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh IG AD Khawaja canceled all transfers made in police department by the provincial government after July 7, 2017.

The rift between Police IG and Sindh government has tensed in the past couple of weeks with issuance and cancelation of orders by both entities. In the light of such cold war, Sindh IG canceled all transfers issued by the government from July 7 to September 6.

The notification issued by IG Office directed all officers from grade 18-21 to report on their old postings with immediate effect. The decision was made in the light of ruling given by Sindh High Court.

Previously, Sindh IG and Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah had an important meeting. Sources told Sindh CM gave three options to the IG in order to meet negotiations. These include taking leaves, transfer or improve working relationship with the government, according to sources.

It was further added that Murad Ali Shah made it clear that Sindh Police IG should make police appointments with the consent of political leadership, and suggested that high-level officers should only be appointed with the recommendation of government.

Sources told that AG Khawaja responded saying he wants better working relationship with Sindh government. Police department should be run as an institution and police has nothing to do with politics, he stressed.
