Memon cleared his stance today on NAB's action against him

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former Member of Provincial Assembly, Pakistan People’s Party’s Sharjeel Memon branded his detention ‘a kidnapping’ by National Accountability Bureau after he arrived in Pakistan on Saturday after around a year and a half.

Memon addressed a press conference in the federal capital today to clear his stance on NAB’s action against him.

The provincial minister said that personnel of the bureau ‘manhandled’ him and another incumbent MPA who accompanied him at the airport and refused to give out details on why they were being shifted to a location that was undisclosed then.

However, he said that the officials did not mistreat them at the department but he objected to the way they were taken in custody. It was not detention, it was ‘kidnapping’, he asserted.

Memon said that he is willing to cooperate with the department for probe of corruption references against him but there is a procedure for that which must be followed.

The personnel were told that he possessed court’s stay order in the issue but the request was not entertained. However, he said that he would not press contempt of court charges against NAB.

On the occasion, Sindh MPA expressed his concerns over alleged lack of action against corruption in Punjab, a province that predominantly supports Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the ruling party.

He mentioned a video evidence of a scandal against Education Minister of Punjab, Rana Mashood when he demanded off the Government of Punjab and the federation to take notice of the alleged partiality.

Sharjeel Inam Memon had served as the information minister of Sindh earlier and was living abroad in self-imposed exile since September 2015 and claimed of ongoing medical treatment in the meanwhile.

A court had issued non-bailable arrest warrant against him in a corruption case involving funds worth over Rs 5 billion. Another case alleging him of embezzling funds during his tenure in Sindh Forest Department is likely to be lodged soon.

While talking about the legal cases, Memon has said that he returned to Pakistan to fight the corruption allegations as he is innocent.
