Do away with licensed arms across country for peace:MQM
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday submitted the draft of, what they said, Deweaponization Act 2011 in the National Assembly, urging elimination of licensed arms besides others across the country to maintain peace. Later while addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar termed the worsening law and order the biggest problem facing the metropolitan, adding that the abovesaid bill showed that his party, by taking a practical step, did not limit the situation to showing concern only. The bill suggested minimum seven years of imprisonment and Rs 100 million for the violator.De-weaponization Bill 2011, sought to curb the illegal production, trade and use of arms. The Parliament should be allowed to review the laws pertaining to production, distribution, smuggling and use of arms across the country, Farooq maintained. We called for rooting out of this menace by gradually addressing it; we have not only try to draw the concerned authorities attention to certain issues but also proposed their solutions, he said. Do away with licensed arms as well, suggested a serious former minister, adding that a committee be formed that would review the process of de-weaponization of the metropolis. He lamented that kidnapping for ransom and increasing incidents of murders and other crimes are becoming an identity of Pakistan. The extortionists have made peoples lives miserable, he stated.
