Imran Khan reaches Parade Ground to lead celebratory rally
Last week saw several clashes of PTI supporters with law enforcement agencies in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reached Parade Ground on Wednesday to address activists of the political organisation who have gathered to mark a celebratory rally over Supreme Court’s (SC) development in Panama Leaks case.
Khan stepped out of his residence in Bani Gala after around a week following imposition of Section-144 across Punjab.
Leader of the political organisation addressed press conference multiple times outside his residence but did not move outside the locality which was circled by personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) and police.
However, Khan’s arrival at the rally venue today came after Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pervez Khattak reached the site along with supporters from the province.
It should be mentioned here that Khattak was leading a group of PTI workers to Islamabad on Monday night when violent confrontation with police left around eight police mobiles burning while containers were cleared using a crane.
Sheikh Rasheed, chief of Awami Muslim League (AML) has participated in the rally and reached Parade Ground before CM Khattak and Imran Khan.
Chief of AML had expressed disappointment yesterday after Khan announced to lead a ‘thanksgiving’ rally and not protest in the federal capital which he had warned the government of on September 30 by asserting that the party would ‘lockdown’ the city.
Last week has seen several clashes of PTI supporters with law enforcement agencies in Islamabad and different areas as the government attempted to foil the then forthcoming demonstration.
The issue predominantly took shape of a deadlock between the government and PTI after members of party’s youth convention were detained and allegedly tortured by police last Thursday prompting Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and MNA Asad Umar to demand explanation for the ‘brutality’.
