Rawalpindi infant's death: PM announces one million rupees for family

CM Punjab has formed an inquiry committee over the infant's death.

LAHORE / ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday has formed an inquiry committee over the death of infant from tear gas in Rawalpindi.

The convener of the committee will be Rawalpindi Medial College’s principal Dr Umer whereas the associates include CM’s inquiry team member Kokab Nadeem Waraich, Services Institute of Medical Sciences’s Child Specialist Dr Humayun Iqbal and DCO Rawalpindi.

The committee will be authorized to attain the services of another member and will present their report to Chief Minister Punjab in 48 hours.

CM Punjab while expressing grief over the incident has conveyed sympathies to the affected the family.

On the directions of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, the state minster for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry went to the deceased child’s residence and expressed empathy with the parents.

He also announced Rs10 lac for the family of the deceased on behalf of the premier.

The State Minister said that the protesters should not lockdown the cities while endangering the lives of families living in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

He reiterated that no one will be allowed to shut the capital.

The child’s father Tahir Khan said that no damage of Imran Khan and Sheikh Raheed has been occurred.

If they want to make decisions on the roads then assemblies should be demolished and cricket ground should be made instead, he lambasted.

The infant died of alleged tear gas shelling in Friday’s clash between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami Muslim League (AML) and police at Rawalpindi’s Committee Chowk.

The new born identified as Abu Bakar lost his life due to suffocation by tear gas, the parents claimed.
