Noose tightens: MQM leaders being taken into custody
Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan, Aamir Liaquat and Khawaja Izharul Hassan have been taken into custody
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders are being taken into custody right after the attack by its workers at private TV channel earlier today (Monday). High ranking leaders including Dr Farooq Sattar, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Dr Aamir Liaquat and Amir Khan have been taken into custody, reported Dunya News.
Dr Farooq Sattar and Khawaja Izharul Hassan had arrived at Karachi Press Club to present their stance before the public after the attack on ARY News but they were taken into custody by the Rangers. Rangers told Sattar and Izharul Hassan to go with them but MQM leaders insisted on talking to media for only a few minutes. However, Rangers didn’t allow them to talk to the media and took them into custody.
Farooq Sattar said on the occasion that he was ready to go with Rangers but Rangers officials told him that they will have to sit with him in his car. They took Izharul Hassan and Farooq Sattar with them.
Moreover, Dr Aamir Liaquat has also been taken into custody. Rangers’ car came to Aamir Liaquat’s office at II Chundrigarh Road and took him into custody. Sources told Dunya News that more MQM leaders might be taken into custody.
Rangers DG Major General Bilal Akbar said while talking to media that the law and order situation has been restored in the city upon the directions of Chief of Army Staff. He told that the markets in Karachi were open while the situation will also be monitored tomorrow.
