ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Voting regarding the election of a new Sindh Chief Minister (CM) has been completed in the Sindh Assembly as Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) have cast their votes either for Syed Murad Ali Shah, candidate nominated by Pakistan People s Party (PPP), or Khurram Sher Zaman who is the candidate nominated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sindh Assembly was divided into two lobbies for the purpose of voting with one lobby reserved for the voting of the PPP candidate whereas the other for the PTI candidiate. Former Sindh CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah was the first member to cast his vote.

Earlier, the Secretary announced that all submitted nomination papers were declared as valid.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday decided not to put forth its candidate for the Sindh Chief Minister‘s post while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf fielded Khurram Sher Zaman against Pakistan People s Party candidate Murad Ali Shah.

The provincial assembly comprises 168 members, but at present there are 165 MPAs as three seats are vacant. Murad Ali Shah is likely to win the election as the ruling PPP has 91 members in Sindh Assembly.

On the other hand, PTI has only four lawmakers in the house.

Later today, Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad will administer oath to the newly-elected Chief Minister at CM House in Karachi.

Qaim Ali Shah-led government of the party in Sindh came under a lot of criticism during this term especially in the past year for bad governance and alleged apathetic attitude towards welfare of the people.

Qaim Ali Shah has been trolled on the social media many times in the recent past for his tongue-slips in public addresses besides alleged irresponsible behavior towards development projects in the economic hub of the country, Karachi.

Murad Ali Shah was earlier elected in the Sindh Assembly in 2002 and completed his tenure until 2007. He served as the project director of Karachi Fish Harbour Authority before getting elected as the member of assembly for the first time.

His father, late Syed Abdullah Shah had served the province in capacity of Chief Minister, Speaker Sindh Assembly and Deputy Speaker. He was also elected a senator in 1991 and remained a member of the House until 1993.
