COAS sacks 11 armymen for corruption amid Panama leaks brouhaha

Peace and stability are not possible without curbing corruption, COAS had stated earlier.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has terminated as many as 11 army officers from services for corruption, Dunya News reported Thursday.
The development has come in two days after the Army Chief called for accountability across the board in the country amid Panama leaks brouhaha.
The officials terminated from services include a lieutenant general, a major general and five brigadiers.
While addressing a ceremony at Signals Regiment Center in Kohat on Tuesday, General Sharif had said that accountability at all levels was necessary in order to eliminate terrorism.
He said that peace and stability were not possible without ending corruption.
COAS said that army has the support of the entire nation in war on terror, adding that both the civil and the military leadership of the country are working together to end terrorism.
He said that accountability across the board was crucial for the country as peace could not prevail without it. The Army Chief also said that the military would endorse all moves made for the betterment of the nation.
He further stated that terrorists’ hideouts were being destroyed and the war against terrorism was being carried out with the support of the people.
Army Chief assures support to Sindh Police IG
General Raheel Sharif called on Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) AD Khawaja earlier today and assured army’s complete support in mission to eradicate terrorism.
Over the telephone call, General Sharif condoled killings of seven police in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Wednesday.
The COAS vowed to weed-out terrorism in all provinces and paid rich tribute to the martyrs.
Inspector General AD Khawaja said that General Sharif assured him of army’s support in fight against terror in Sindh. He said that COAS Sharif’s support has lifted Sindh Police’s determination to new heights.
Seven police who were guarding polio workers were martyred on Wednesday in Orangi Town in two different gun attacks. At least eight terrorists, riding four motorcycles had gunned down the security personnel.
One of the eight miscreants was nabbed earlier today while hunt for the rest of the terrorists is underway.
