Sedition case against Musharraf: SHC puts off verdict

Sindh High Court on Tuesday deferred its ruling on a constitutional plea seeking filing of treason case against former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, Sharifuddin Pirzada and Malik Qayyum till October 14. The petitioner Maulvi Haider Iqbal contended that General Musharraf violated the Constitution by imposing emergency on October 3, 2007, which is tantamount to committing treason. The petition added that Musharraf the Constitution after his volitions thereby distorting the countrys most respected document. Maulvi Iqbal stated that Sahrifuddin Pirzada and Malik Qayyum incited Musharraf to contravene the Constitution and hence a case should be filed against the under Article 6 of the Constitution. The court, however, reserved the verdict in this regard till Oct 14 (Thursday).
