Hurriyat leads shutter down strike in Kashmir against Pulwama killings
Entire Pulwama has come to a standstill today against the killings
PULWAMA (Dunya News) – Kashmir locals are observing a shutter down strike against the latest of innocent killings in Pulwama and decades-long Indian aggression, Dunya News reported Monday.
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) chairman Syed Ali Geelani among other leaders including Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called for a strike.
In the latest of unwarranted bloodshed, Indian troops martyred 19-year-old Danish and 22-year-old Shaista in Pulwama area.
Entire Pulwama has come to a standstill today against the killings.
On the other hand, puppet-like government has put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and deployed security at his residence.
Sources said that a clash between forces and locals resulted in deaths while four locals were injured in the incident.
Geelani in a statement issued in Srinagar stated that, “Not only does the unresolved Kashmir issue claim precious human lives, but due to lingering dispute millions of Indians are also dying of starvation as major part of Indian budget is spent over the purchase of arms and ammunition,” he said. Gilani said the best way of paying tributes to the martyrs is to carry forward their mission for which they laid their precious lives.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his statement said, “Indian forces are committing crimes against humanity in the territory due to the unbridled powers they enjoy under the draconian laws. The merciless killing of innocent civilians is the worst example of state-sponsored terrorism,” Mirwaiz added.
Civilians alleged forces of opening indiscriminate fire against their democratic right of protesting against Indian violence. Mehbooba Mufti chief of Peoples Democratic Party has termed the incident ‘unfortunate’.
On January 20, in another oppressive action, violent troops had martyred two locals in an operation that continuing for more than 12 hours.
Indian forces had circled a building where three other innocent locals had taken shelter.
On January 15, thousands of Kashmiris protested in Srinagar, Pulwama, Islamabad, Bandipur and other parts against the martyrdom of a youth by Indian army.
The protest was launched on appeals of Hurriyat leaders, Syed Ali Gillani and Shabbir Shah. The protesters hoisted Pakistani flags during the demonstrations. Gillani and Shah were under house arrest and not let to offer Friday prayers that day.
In a statement issued on January 5, APHC leader Geelani had termed India a terrorist state . He said that Kashmiris are not terrorists and their struggle is centered on self determination only. He added that India must pay heed to what is chalked on walls in Kashmir and resolve the issue.
